^{Q5: How do you define ‘art’ in your CPP project?}

^{We have taken a broad view of the arts in terms of art form, and are resisting some of the more 'limiting' definitions related to community based practices. Instead through our artistic programme we are aiming to create a space for dialogue, research and experimentation for local citizens and artists alike, local people and artists together; placing art in direct interaction with all the areas of human activity which form society. The 'work' created will range for object based and more traditional forms, to work that is more temporary and dialogical in nature. We are interested to see how artists and communities fit, expand and confound the social formations that characterise post-industrial towns in the North of England. We are utilizing a continuum of participatory practices; artists working with communities or in particular contexts as a point of inspiration/research, artists working with communities as co-creators in a process where joint ownership is held at every stage of a project, and artists working with communities / audiences through highly interactive work, and work that requires high levels of engagement and audience participation in order to come to life.}
