Looking Up Time

The last time I tried, it took google 0.46 seconds to find me over five billion results for the search term 'time'. The first entry: Time.is – exact time, any time zone: 7 million locations, 44 languages, synchronized with atomic clock time.

The last time I looked it up, the first entry for 'time' in my dictionary read: [mass noun] the indefinite continued progress of existence and events in the past, present, and future regarded as a whole.

And now I am wondering about measurements and atomic clocks and how you can never capture now because as soon as you have said it it is gone. And there is something in the phrase 'indefinite continued progress of existence' which I find comforting, though I couldn't say why. I am thinking about how a minute spent mindfully can stretch and breathe, whilst there are days which disappear without trace.

The last time I looked at my watch it was 6.51.

The last time I tried to stop time, I couldn't.
